Beattie, Ann Isabella

Ann Isabella Beattie (nee Charlton) was born on 3 October 1884 in Wallsend and her birth registered in Tynemouth later that year. Her father was Thomas Charlton a railway inspector who had been born in Belford. Her mother Sarah who was ten years younger than her father had been born in Wallsend. In 1891 the family home was 13 Greenwell Street, Winlaton. By 1801 the family had moved to Turnpike Road, Winlaton; Thomas’s job is clarified as a permanent way inspector but neither of his daughters – Margaret (22) nor Ann are in education or working. In the second quarter of 1905 she married William Beattie in Gateshead. By the time they were living in 4 Percy Terrace Ann had had two sons, Thomas William Beattie (born c 1907) and John Beattie (c 1910) A further son George C Beattie was born on 9 June 1917. In 1939 she and William were living in 16 Parmently Street, Newcastle from where William was working as an engine driver. Ann’s death was registered in Newcastle in the second quarter of 1954.
