Burrell, Isabella Cook - Born 1905
Isabella was the daughter of James Burrell, a draper’s shop assistant and Isabella Cook Burrell. She was born in Hexham, almost certainly when her parents were living at 1 St. Nicholas Road, Hexham. The family moved to Bellingham and were living in 6 Percy Terrace when her father died on 26 April 1918. Isabella was a fifteen-year-old scholar when the 1921 Census was taken. She never married and in 1939 was living at home in 6 Percy Terrace with her mother and brother although the Register now shows the head of house to be Sydney Clough. Isabella’s occupation is given as unpaid domestic duties. With her brother she moved to 30 Westlands, Bellingham. Her brother died on 23 June 1962, leaving Isabella £794 1s. In the same year on 1 September, she won a book prize in the Newcastle Journal crossword competition. Her death was registered at the age of seventy-nine in Newcastle in 1985.
