Burrell, James Dewar
James was the son of James Burrell, a draper’s shop assistant and Isabella Cook Burrell. He was born in Hexham on 7 April 1904. The family were living in 1 St. Nicholas Road, Hexham. His father died in 6 Percy Terrace, Bellingham on 26 April 1918. In 1921, seventeen-year-old James was working as a shop assistant for Walter Percy Collier, a commercial photographer in Brewery Lane, Bellingham. W P Collier was a fellow resident at Number Six at that time. In 1939 James was still living in 6 Percy Terrace with his mother and sister (also Isabella) but the head of the household was now Sydney Clough. James was now working as a general labourer doing heavy work. He didn’t marry and was living with his spinster sister at 30 Westlands, Bellingham when he died on 23 June 1962. He left effects worth £794 1s.
