Hannah Hedley (nee Dickinson) appears in 3 Percy Terrace as a visitor in 1921. She was born Hannah Dickinson, the daughter of John, a miner and Hannah and was baptised in Bellingham on 21 November 1847. In 1871 she was living in 3 Foundry Row, Ridsdale with her parents and in 1873 she married William Hedley, who was a shepherd in Heugh Cottage, Birtley. In the succeeding seventeen years she had seven children. William was twelve years older than Hannah and died in 1901. She took over the running of the Heugh farm (She was described as a farmer whilst William had always been a shepherd). Farm duties were shared with her son, Ralph (born c. 1886). In the 1921 Census return when she was visiting her daughter, Elizabeth Wright (need Hedley) at 3 Percy Terrace, although by now seventy-three she described her occupation as assisting her son, Ralph Hedley, farmer of the Heugh, Wark in general farm work. She died on 15 June 1925 and is buried, with her husband in Birtley, St. Giles. Probate was granted to on 8 September to John Hedley, commercial clerk and Ralph Hedley farmer. Her effects were valued at £1,730 8s 6d.
