McKie, Martha
Martha Mckie (nee Hunter) lived in various house in Cruddas Terrace, Bellingham after she married Thomas McKie in 1897. Little is known of Martha or her family other than she was born in Falstone in 1877/78 and that her birth was registered in Bellingham in the first quarter of 1878. At the age of four she was a boarder with Robert and Margey Salkeld, in Haugh Lane, Hexham, Robert was a coalminer born in Greenside, Durham, and Margery was from Bedlington. In 1891 she was living with her uncle, James Paton, a fitter, and his wife, Jane at 30, Gill Street Benwell. She married Thomas McKie in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hexham on 9 January 1887. By the time of her death early in 1922 she had given birth to eight children of whom six were living in 1911.
