Thompson, Lily (formerly Dodd nee Armstrong)
Lily Thompson (formerly Dodd nee Armstrong) was born on 15 June 1898 but not baptised until 29 November 1903. She lived in 2 Cruddas Terrace with her single mother and after her mother married Joseph Matthew Dodd, moved to 2 Cruddas Terrace. In 1911 the census return has her as Lillie Dodd. In the 1921 Census her occupation was given as ‘house duties’. In the third quarter of 1921 she married William Thompson in Bellingham. William was the son of Thomas, a self-employed carting contractor and Margaret from Greenhaugh. At the age of sixteen he was employed by Mr Matthews of Mantle Hill as a farm labourer. He hasn’t been traced in the 1921 Census but he and Lily were living at Lanehead in 1939. William was a hewer in a coalmine. A son Henry had been born on 24 April 1925. Lily may have died in 1943.
