William Todd moved into Cruddas Terrace (1 Cruddas Terrace), Bellingham at some time between 1876 and 1878 when one looks at the birthplaces of his children. He was born in Stanwix, Cumberland on 30 October 1841 to William, a labourer, and Margaret (nee Skelton). In 1851 the family was living at 2 Queen Street, Micklegate, York. He cannot be traced in the 1861 Census. He married Mary Hixon in Bellingham on 22 January 1867. At the 1871 Census they were living at 9 Rendle Terrace, Ridsdale, where his occupation is given as joiner. Their oldest child, Joseph Todd (3) had been born in Lumley, Co. Durham, but Sarah Todd (2) and William Todd (11 months) had both been born in Corsenside. Margaret Todd was born in Ridsdale circa 1874 but Thomas Todd (1875) and Elizabeth Todd (1876) were both born in Ferryhill. The remaining children, Robert Todd (1878) and Catherine Todd (1880) were born in Bellingham where their father described himself as a joiner and cartwright. The family were living in 6 Cruddas Terrace in 1891 with five of their children. He died in Bellingham in the final quarter of 1896 aged 57.
