	William Todd was born in Stanwix, Cumberland on 30 October 1841 to William and Margaret (nee Skelton) He married Mary Hixon in Bellingham on 22 January 1867. At the 1871 Census they were living at 9, Rendle Terrace, Ridsdale where his occupation is given as joiner. In 1881 he was living at 1, Cruddas Terrace and working as a joiner and cartwright. From the birthplaces of his children, it seems that he didn’t move directly from Ridsdale to Bellingham. In about 1874 he moved from Ridsdale to Ferryhill and came to Bellingham sometime between 1876 and 1878. Between the 1881 and 1891 censuses he moved from 1, Cruddas Terrace to number 4. He died in Bellingham in the final quarter of 1896 aged 57.

	George Armstrong was born in 1832 to Thomas Armstrong, an agricultural labourer, and his wife Sarah. In 1841 they were living at Moor’s Walls, Bellingham. George an agricultural labourer appears in the 1851 Census as a visitor to a family in Fourstones Village. He married Margaret Moore from Tanfield, County Durham in Newcastle on 26 May 1855. In 1861 he was a railway labourer and living in Percy Row, Bellingham. In the censuses of 1871 and 1881 he was living in Hutchinson Street, Bellingham and styling himself as a road contractor. In 1891 he was a general labourer living in 1, Cruddas Terrace. He moved to Bellingham Mill but in 1901 he isn’t given an occupation. He died on 31 May 1903 aged 71 and is buried in Bellingham with wife Margaret. (Picture of gravestone on Find a Grave)

	George Armstrong son of George and Margaret occupied 1, Cruddas Terrace in 1901. George Junior who was born 11 June 1870 married Elizabeth Armstrong from Horton, Bebside in 1899. Elizabeth was the daughter of Humphrey, a coalminer and Isabella. George was a County Council roadman until he retired – described as ‘retired roadman’ living at 8, Percy Street in 1939. He lived to be 89, not dying until the 4th Quarter of 1959.

	Dorothy Brown (nee Smith) was born in Rothbury, the daughter of George, a clog maker and Margaret, a dressmaker. It is possible that she was orphaned in the 1850s as in 1861, aged 13 she was living with her aunt who was the innkeeper of the Rifleman Inn, Rothbury. Ten years later she was still at the Rifleman but listed only as a general servant domestic. In about 1876 she married Thomas Brown. He was a native of Elsdon/Otterburn and his first job was that of shepherd. He moved to Reedsmouth where he worked himself up from engine cleaner to engine driver and at one time was based in Rothbury. They appear to have lost two daughters (Dorothy and Margaret) in childhood but had two further children. Between 1891 and 1901 they moved from Rothbury to Reedsmouth. Dorothy was widowed on 27 August 1901 and by 1911 was living in 1, Cruddas Terrace with her son George James and three boarders. George was a time-served upholsterer who had been born in Rothbury. He joined the army during World War 1. His death is recorded: - Private George James Brown 30814 of the 24th (Tyneside Irish) battalion Northumberland Fusiliers was killed on 7 August 1917. Aged 34, son of Dorothy and the late Thomas, husband of Margaret, Fountan Square, Bellingham. Native of Rothbury. Arthur David Monkhouse Wallace was born in Carlisle to George and Margaret Wallace on 30 December 1890. His father, and one of his brothers were described as cloggers in the 1891 Census but later George was a dealer in coal and firewood. Arthur married Euphemia Hope in Roxburgh on 15 September 1917 and died in Caldercruix in 1939.

	Joseph Wood Lauderdale was the son of John and Jane and was baptised in Bellingham on 29 June 1873. John was a gamekeeper at Woodhead, Bellingham in 1881 and at Reedsmouth Mill in 1891. Joseph’s mother died on 28 July 1887. Joseph in 1891 was working as an agricultural labourer. There appears to be no record of Joseph in the 1901 Census but on 19 August 1903 he married Agnes Ellen Hood in Rothbury. In 1911 he and Agnes were living at 6, Wilson Street, Newton in Carlisle and he was a railway guard. His job obviously involved spells based away from home and in the 1930 electoral register he is living at 148 Cardigan Terrace, Heaton, Newcastle. He died in Cumberland on 27 April 1949 although his permanent address was 1, Cruddas Terrace. In his will he left £619 – 0 - 2. Agnes died on10 May 1954.
