'''No 2. Masons'''

I remember a Mrs. Wear as an old lady who lived in Number 2 and had a daughter Eva who married Jack Wanlass the rabbit catcher from Wark. Jack and Dad were great friends as Dad used to provide Jack with the seedlings of prize-winning leeks which won him many prizes.

The next tenants were the Masons who had moved up from the village. Father Jim ran the meal house at the Northern Farmers, and the eldest son Archie did service in the Royal Navy. Younger son Jimmy rose to great heights in the Royal Marines as Band Master on the Royal Yacht. I remember passing their door once and hearing a clarinet playing when he was home on leave! I was told they both retired in Portsmouth which would have more naval associations than Bellingham.
