<p><b>New page</b></p><div>Thomas Robson was born at Lanehead in 1887, and became a carpenter in Bellingham. During the First World War, he enlisted as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers in November 1915. He was listed as missing on 27 May 1918, and had been taken prisoner that day by the Germans at Craonne, north west of Reims. Thomas was unwounded when he was captured, and was taken to Langensalza prisoner of war camp. He was later moved to Ohrdruf prisoner of war camp, where the camp record says that he died from general exhaustion on 16 September 1918. Thomas is comemmorated on the war memorials in Bellingham in St Cuthbert's, the lych gate, the Methodist/URC church and in Kirkwhelpington Village Hall. <br />
