<p><b>New page</b></p><div>Sarah was the daughter of Joseph, a blacksmith and Sarah – she appears to have had a twin sister, Ann. She was born at Walwick and christened at Humshaugh on 25 July 1824. She had a son, James, who was christened in Humshaugh on 28 November 1847. In 1851 she was working as a dressmaker and living with her parents at Walwick, siblings and son James. When her brother, [[Short, John|John Short]], set up home in Walwick she and James moved in with him. When John lived in [[Cruddas Terrace]], Bellingham in 1871 and 1881 she acted as his housekeeper. The 1881 record is the last reference I have been able to find pursuing census, marriage and death records has proved unavailing. There is however a Sarah Jane Short whose death is recorded in South Shields in the fourth quarter of 1889 when it is likely her brother and nephew were working in Jarrow.<br />
