Memories by Clive Dalton (Contributions by John McPhail, Mavis Nixon (nee Jackson), John Davidson)

There was no shortage of folk in North Tyne, Rede and Warksburn who had ‘nicknames’. Those that could be considered rude were only used behind their backs, but many used their ‘nickname’ as their regular accepted name, despite it not being their registered birth name. Many nicknames were just shortened versions of their registered name.

In the list below it would have been nice to put the person’s surname after each name, and especially the reason for the nickname. But that could have upset any surviving ancestors.

Here’s some we remember in the 1940-50 period. Add to them if you can, and enjoy the memory of who they were if you know, and especially how they got their names.
