Mary Ann was the husband of Thomas Armstrong. She was born in Warden, Hexham in 1864, although in one of the censuses her birthplace is given as Newbrough and in another specifically, Parkshields, a farm near Warden Village. She was the daughter of John, a general labourer, and Isabel Ridley. In 1871 the family were in Barrasford but by 1881, when Mary Ann was sixteen she was working as a farm labourer. She married Thomas Armstrong in the second quarter of 1885 and moved with Thomas to Bellingham. They had ten children. In 1939 they were living in Armstrong Square. Mary Ann died in 1940 at the age of 76.
