Warwick, Catherine Jane Whitton

CatherineJane Whitton Warwick (nee Ross) was born on 30 November 1882 in Langholm. She was the oldest of nine children of William, a tailor and Margaret. In 1891 and 1901 the family were living at 3 David Street, Langholm. In 1901 Catherine was eighteen and working as a tailoress. On 30 August 1902 she married Walter Warwick a fellow tailor from Langholm. They moved to Bellingham and in 1911 were living in Brookside Place, Bellingham. A lodger in the household in 1911 was John Ross a twenty-six-year-old tailor from Langholm this is without doubt one of Catherine’s brothers. By the time of the 1921 Census Catherine had had four sons – John Warwick (17), William Ross Warwick ((15), Fred Ross Warwick (5) and Walter James Warwick (8½ months). In 1939 Walter and Catherine were living at 4 Russell Terrace, Bellingham where Catherine was undertaking ‘unpaid domestic duties’. She died in Hexham General Hospital on 18 January 1951. Administration was granted to William Ross Warwick, and she left effects worth £220 4s 3d.
