In 1881, aged 16 she had left home and was working as a general domestic servant in the household of John Walton, a chemist at 47, Cromwell Street, Elswick, Newcastle. Surprisingly in 1891, aged 27 she was back with her parents who were living in [[Cruddas Terrace]] ([[1 Cruddas Terrace]]). In George’s household was a five year old grandson, Henry who, later records show to have been Annie’s son.
