Tilly, Frances (nee Curry)

Frances was living in Cruddas Terrace (at 9 Cruddas Terrace) in 1871 with her husband, John and two small children, Edward and William. She was the daughter of William, an agricultural labourer, and Mary. She was born in 1837 and her father, like most agricultural labourers moved around fairly regularly. She was christened in St. John Lee in 1838. 1841 saw the family in St. John Lee Parish and in 1851 they had moved to Keepwick where the census gives her birthplace as St. John Lee. She was known as Fanny at this time. In 1861 the family was at West Mill Hills, Haydon Bridge where the 22 year old (sic), Fanny was working with her father as an agricultural labourer. At this census her birthplace is given as Hallington. She married John Tilly in Bellingham in 1866. Frances and their eldest son, Edward (aged 11) both died in 1878 with the deaths being registered in Tynemouth. John died in 1879 and the death was registered in Morpeth.
