Lauderdale, Agnes Ellen (nee Hood)
Agnes Ellen Lauderdale was the wife of Joseph Wood Lauderdale and lived with him at 1 Cruddas Terrace in 1939. She was born Agnes Ellen Hood in Rothbury on 3 April 1876 to Adam, a carter and Isabella. There is no trace of her ever being employed – she was a scholar in 1881 and has no occupation in 1891 when living with her parents. Her mother is recorded as being a widow, living on her own means in 1901 but even then, Agnes wasn’t working. On 19 August she married Joseph Wood Lauderdale in Rothbury. Their daughter Dorothy May was born in 1905 and in 1911 they were living at 6 Wilson Street, Newton, Carlisle. Prior to 1939, they moved to 1 Cruddas Terrace, Bellingham and this is given as Joseph's address at his death in 1949. It seems that Agnes moved to Willington, Co. Durham, to live with her married daughter, Dorothy May Warwick. She died at the Police Station, Willington on 19 May 1954. Administration of her estate worth £536 17s 2d was granted to her daughter.
