Her father Joseph was a shoemaker employing one Apprentice – which may have been Jane’s older brother Thomas. Her mother was Margaret who had been born in Corbridge. Jane married Matthew Scott on 23 January 1858. They had at least six children but also ‘fostered’ babies and young children. She was widowed in 1896. She was visiting her son John Thomson Scott and his family in Arthur’s Hill, Elswick on the night the 1901 Census was taken. Jane Scott died in Bellingham in 1906.
