Margaret Todd was a daughter of William and Mary Todd and grew up in Cruddas Terrace, Bellingham. She was resident in the terrace in 1881 (1 Cruddas Terrace) and 1891. She was born on 15 August 1871 while her parents were living in 9 Rendle Terrace, Ridsdale and baptised in Bellingham on 14 January 1872. She married John Scott in Bellingham in the fourth quarter of 1890 but as a married woman is recorded as being in Cruddas Terrace in 1891 with her parents. She is given no occupation in the 1891 Census. John Scott was from Scotland and in 1901 the couple and five children were living in White House, Thockrington where John was a shepherd. In 1911 the Scotts were living in the Cottage in the Field, Matfen where John was now a cowman. They had had nine children in their nineteen years of marriage and the birthplaces of their offspring is testimony to their peripatetic existence – Humshaugh, Haltwhistle, Acomb, Allendale, Kirkwhelpington and Stamfordham. Margaret probably died aged 60 in 1931 in the Rothbury District.
