Additional notes:
John Till(e)y was born in Bellingham in about 1837 and died in Morpeth in 1879. He was the son of Edward, an agricultural labourer of Old Man Shield. He married Frances Currey in Bellingham in October 1866. They had five children – Edward 1868 – 1878, William Yellowley 1870 – 1909, Thomas Joseph died 1871, John died 1874 and Ellen died 1877
James Milburn was born in Elsdon in 1838. At the age of 13 he was a house servant in the household of Otterburn grocer, the widowed Margaret Mitchell. Mrs Mitchell’s son John, a surgeon was also in residence. In 1861 James married Jane Telfer in Bellingham. They had three daughters, Mary, Margaret Ann and Elizabeth.  In 1871 when the family lived at Bridgeford Cottage, James was an agricultural labourer but after his residence in Cruddas Terrace in 1881, by 1891 he was a surfaceman and grocer living in Hott Cottage, Greystead. He was buried at Greystead on 10th April 1895.

* Information provided by Rob Tindall 15/9/23

In 1901 the trail becomes very obscure. The terrace goes from 9 dwellings to 7 and there is no indication where two have been lost or amalgamated. The houses are not numbered in the 1901 census. In 1891 George Armstrong was living in number 9 which had 4 rooms; in 1901 he appears to be in the same position in the row but in a house with only 2 rooms.

It is thought that the 1891 Census was taken in the opposite direction to the other censuses. The reasoning is that the number nearest to Percy Street is number 9, this being the case in 1881 when individual houses are numbered. The theory is backed up when looking at the number of rooms in each house.

Only six houses are listed in 1911 and it is suspected that Number 9 had been demolished.
