Robert was one of the sons of [[Todd, William|William Todd]] and [[Todd, Mary (Nee Hixon)|Mary Todd]] and appeared in three successive census returns for [[Cruddas Terrace]], Bellingham. He was born in Ridsdale on 8 November 1877 and baptised in Bellingham in 1878. He was in [[Cruddas Terrace]] ([[1 Cruddas Terrace]]) aged three in 1881 and thirteen in 1891. He remained in the terrace in 1901 but in a household headed by his older brother, [[Todd, William Dixon Hixon|William Todd]]. [[Todd, William Dixon Hixon|William Todd]] was a self-employed cartman and Robert’s occupation is also given as cartman but whether he was working for his brother or not, isn’t known. He moved away from Bellingham and in 1811 was working as a mason and living in the Cottage in the Field, Matfen. The head of the house was John Scott, a cowman. John Scott’s wife was Margaret Scott, formerly Todd, who was an older sister of Robert. Robert’s death was registered in Hexham in 1928 (3rd Quarter) when he was fifty years old. He never married.
